Two antennas separated with a so called baseline distance B in cross velocity direction take two independent images from the same scene and compare the two phases which result from the same pixel at the two antennas. This phase differences compare to different distances between the Pixel and the two antennas and from this difference the height of the respective pixel in relation to the altitude of the radar over a defined level can be determined.

Land Subsidence Monitoring with Differential SAR Interferometry
The potential of differential SAR interferometry for land subsidence monitoring is reported on. The principle of the technique and the approach to be used on a specific case are first presented. Then significant results using SAR data from the ERS satellites for various sites in Germany, Mexico, and Italy, representing fast (mlyear) to slow (mmlyear) deformation velocities, are discussed. The S...
متن کاملDifferential Sar Interferometry for Land Subsidence Monitoring: Methodology and Examples
In recent years significant progress was achieved in SAR interferometry. In this paper we report on the potential of differential SAR interferometry to map land subsidence. After a presentation of the methodology the focus will be on feasibility demonstration and accuracy assessment. The theoretical considerations are verified with the selected cases Ruhrgebiet, Mexico City, Bologna, and Eugane...
متن کاملOptions for High-Precision Motion Compensation for Airborne Differential SAR Interferometry
In recent years, differential interferometry using space-borne SAR sensors has become an established technique for detecting and monitoring centimetre-scale deformations of the earth’s surface, as well as glacier flows and land slides. Although often very efficient, the use of space-borne SAR data has several drawbacks, namely phase artifacts caused by atmospheric effects and very low coherence...

متن کاملGlacier motion estimation using SAR offset-tracking procedures
Two image-to-image patch offset techniques for estimating feature motion between satellite synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images are discussed. Intensity tracking, based on patch intensity cross-correlation optimization, and coherence tracking, based on patch coherence optimization, are used to estimate the movement of glacier surfaces between two SAR images in both slant-range and azimuth dire...

1 — Much interest is growing in advanced interferometric SAR methods for full 3D imaging. Multibaseline SAR tomographic elevation beam forming, i.e. spatial spectral estimation, is a promising technique in this framework. Recently, this concept has been integrated with the differential interferometry concept, producing the advanced differential tomography processing mode which produces ‘space-t...
